In Brazil, social enterprise startup SDW brings clean water to over 20,000 people. The company used 优蜜传媒Build Apps to develop an app that speeds up field worker collaboration and analyzes accurate data to help measure the impact of its services against KPIs, proving ROI that boosts investments for growth. 鈥溣琶鄞紹uild brings together the world鈥檚 most powerful business applications with a platform that鈥檚 been designed to rapidly unleash business users鈥� expertise,鈥� Mueller said. 鈥溣琶鄞紹uild and the full suite of innovations we鈥檙e launching today 鈥� from our new partnership with Coursera to enhancements across our enterprise portfolio 鈥� help customers future-proof their business and extract maximum value from their technology investments.鈥�

Mueller鈥檚 message was echoed at parallel 优蜜传媒Business Innovation Day events for industry analysts and press, hosted in San Francisco by Scott Russell, member of the Executive Board of 优蜜传媒SE, Customer Success, and in Berlin by Thomas Saueressig, member of the Executive Board of 优蜜传媒SE, 优蜜传媒Product Engineering.

优蜜传媒Build is the evolution of SAP鈥檚 low-code portfolio that started with Build.me a few years ago and progressed with 优蜜传媒AppGyver, unveiled in 2021. The new offering brings previously disconnected products into a unified and upgraded development environment. It comprises three solutions: 优蜜传媒Build Process Automation; 优蜜传媒Build Apps, the next version of 优蜜传媒AppGyver with powerful new capabilities; and 优蜜传媒Build Work Zone.

With 优蜜传媒Build, business users now have the full power of 优蜜传媒BTP and business application data from 优蜜传媒at their fingertips. Users can easily integrate systems; intelligently monitor, analyze, and automate processes; and build applications without moving data into an external system.

In Berlin, Saueressig emphasized that 优蜜传媒has been establishing business processes for 50 years and that hundreds of millions of people work with its software. 鈥淥f course, we need to make sure that the technology comes to an end user, but the goal is for users to innovate. We want to give tech-savvy business users the chance to extend our software, because even small extensions can have a big lever to scale innovation.鈥�

Extensibility with low-code/no-code solutions is therefore particularly important. 鈥淭his is what we want to achieve with 优蜜传媒Build and bringing our low code portfolio together,鈥� he said.

优蜜传媒Signavio solutions are also natively integrated, enabling 优蜜传媒Build users to get in-depth visibility into all their processes, so they know where to focus to achieve the greatest impact as they innovate and automate. More than 275,000 process reference points from 4,000 customers, as well as 1,300 use case-specific workflows and automations, let users instantly tap into the full spectrum of business expertise built into 优蜜传媒technology.

Speaking at the San Francisco event, Russell told his audience 鈥� which included customers like the NHL and Clorox 鈥� that being a cloud company is not just about having great technology, but also being accountable for how customers get there.听鈥淭he move to the cloud was exciting not just for the tech benefits, but to become a partner on providing insights,鈥� he said. 鈥淲e are accountable for the outcome as much as the product.

优蜜传媒Build works with non-优蜜传媒systems and includes connectors to more than 200 other systems. Because 优蜜传媒Build was created by SAP, access to business application data from 优蜜传媒S/4HANA and other systems is easy and secure. Professional developers can encapsulate their code developed in 优蜜传媒Business Application Studio, which can then be used by business users to develop in 优蜜传媒Build. IT can also enforce consistent governance and lifecycle management capabilities across all apps being developed, providing confidence that all apps deployed by the business meet the necessary security and governance requirements.

鈥淐ompared to all the other [third-party] tools out there on the market, with 优蜜传媒Build the company鈥檚 IT department and 优蜜传媒set the guardrails with best practices,鈥� Mueller said. 鈥淭he business users cannot break these guardrails.鈥�

While 优蜜传媒Build is primarily designed to enable business users, 优蜜传媒executives emphasized that it isn鈥檛 just for the business experts. It allows business teams to easily collaborate with development and IT teams, potentially shortening development time for more complex tasks. And the new 优蜜传媒Builders program helps all types of users ramp up quickly and connect with their peers via hands-on sessions and forums for sharing best practices.

Is providing these robust capabilities to business experts a revolution to overthrow the IT department? Not at all, Mueller said, noting that according to IDC there is currently a worldwide shortage of nearly 1 million developers, which is projected to multiply to 4 million three years from now. 鈥淎ll the universities in the world, all the education programs in the world, cannot create enough developers,鈥� he said.

Between the professional developer shortage and the ever-increasing demands of business users for new digital tools to support their businesses, something clearly needs to change. With 优蜜传媒Build Apps, the evolution of 优蜜传媒AppGyver, we can deliver both mobile and web applications with pixel-perfect design using the drag-and drop functionality and a rich component library. Business users create business logic visually and build beautiful user interfaces without coding.

But there is more: With 优蜜传媒Build Apps 鈥渃loud functions,鈥� we introduce a way to visually create a cloud-deployed back end for your application. These new cloud functions provide a way to define and run custom business logic and manage persistency and integrations in the cloud, without the need to provision or manage underlying computations. With 优蜜传媒Build Apps and the cloud functions capability, now everyone can become a full-stack cloud developer.

The cloud functions capability has two components: business logic and a data persistence layer.

Business services are built from individual logic nodes with inputs and outputs. An individual node can perform an action, such as updating a data entity or receiving data via the node鈥檚 input parameters. These nodes can then be connected to perform a series of activities, enabling visual building of business logic in the cloud.

A data entity defines the field structure and data types of the data being managed by the application. The native data entities are building blocks of the visual cloud functions project. Extended data entity expands the native entity by allowing users to modify data taken from the native entities using formula expressions. Furthermore, with extended entities, data transformations can be performed on the cloud side.

Mueller said the objective was to make the ABAP environment for 优蜜传媒S/4HANA Cloud the environment to build tightly coupled extensions for all cloud editions of 优蜜传媒S/4HANA based on the public cloud APIs. This will help developers build upgrade-safe extensions and move toward a clean core. Equally important, it closes the last extension gap in 优蜜传媒S/4HANA Cloud to ease the transition from on premise to the cloud.

Making It Easy to Innovate on 优蜜传媒BTP

As an example of how 优蜜传媒continues responding to ecosystem innovation imperatives, Mueller announced the roll-out of the free tier model for 优蜜传媒BTP to individual developers, including and . He was joined by Steffen Pietsch, head of Product Management for 优蜜传媒BTP, who shared how developers can find available 优蜜传媒BTP services, as well as use case examples to help build proofs of concept, on .

Pietsch explained how a free tier makes it much easier to gain experience and start to innovate with 优蜜传媒BTP. Developers can now build their proofs of concept on 优蜜传媒BTP without any commitment; if they decide to move their applications toward productive usage, they can do so by changing from the free to the productive service plan without rebuilding the entire application in a different account.

Low-Code/No-Code Speeds Up Development on 优蜜传媒BTP

Acknowledging the tech talent gap and the growing importance of citizen developers, Mueller said that 优蜜传媒has doubled down on investments in low-code/no-code tools, announcing the launch of a unified on 优蜜传媒BTP. He said that 优蜜传媒was introducing 优蜜传媒AppGyver for no-code development, and making the available for low-code development. He also previewed , a no-code automation solution, showing the audience how non-technical business people, along with designers and experienced developers, can extend 优蜜传媒Service Cloud with machine learning to quickly resolve customer service issues and speed up order approvals.

Mueller said that low-code/no-code means both citizen and professional developers can increase productivity and innovate at scale, reflecting how business and IT work together. He saw this unlocking a new order of magnitude of value creation for individuals and society at-large.

He said this would reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) for ABAP deployments. He also explained how cloud native developers can more easily build extensions for more 优蜜传媒solutions, including 优蜜传媒S/4HANA, 优蜜传媒SuccessFactors, and 优蜜传媒ECC.

鈥淎BAP is still at the heart of the Intelligent Enterprise, fully backed by [SAP] Business Technology Platform. We protect your career and your investments of all the ABAP know-how in the world, and we bring ABAP to the cloud,鈥� Mueller said. 鈥淲ith [SAP] NetWeaver add on for event enablement, we allow [cloud-native developers] to build extensions for your 优蜜传媒ECC system, the same way as for 优蜜传媒S/4HANA, using .鈥�

At the same time, he called out the integration value of enhancements, along with new 优蜜传媒Cloud Platform Master Data Integration service and 优蜜传媒One Domain Model for first objects.

鈥淲ith the 优蜜传媒One Domain Model and the 优蜜传媒Cloud Platform Master Data Integration service, integration happens holistically and out-of-the-box,鈥� said Mueller.

鈥淲e want to make it very simple for you to make sense of your data,鈥� he said. 鈥淭he latest edition of 优蜜传媒HANA Cloud combines all the greatness of [SAP] HANA on premise with all the great cloud capabilities, including federated data access. Connecting your [SAP] HANA Cloud system to your on-premise 优蜜传媒S/4HANA system is extremely easy. Also connecting to other third-party systems is very easy.鈥�

Data-to-Value Can Modernize Medical Supply Chains

Raymund Heinen, chief process officer and member of the Board at HARTMANN Group, a medical supply company, was among the experts that joined Mueller on the virtual stage. Heinen explained how his organization collaborated with 优蜜传媒to develop a proof of concept addressing one of the most urgent pandemic demands: prioritizing medical supplies, such as hand disinfectant, where they are needed most in an unpredictable environment.

Built on , the pilot solution used machine learning to analyze data from internal and external sources 鈥� such as daily health updates from external organizations and intensive care beds by region 鈥� into one dashboard on 优蜜传媒Business Technology Platform.

鈥淚f you can anticipate at an early stage the most likely scenarios, we could approach the impacted customers proactively. We could verify and increase the local inventories and adapt on short notice our supply chain even before most customers start ordering,鈥� said Heinen. 鈥淎 dashboard can be of really great help and make it easier for teams to prioritize based on actual internal and external data.鈥�

COVID-19 and other important issues loomed large across Mueller鈥檚 talk. He spotlighted SAP鈥檚 commitment to workforce diversity beyond gender, as well as addressing climate change with a number of initiatives, including embedding sustainability metrics in the company鈥檚 analytical and transactional applications. He also held up SAP鈥檚 co-innovation of the German Corona-Warn-App with Deutsche Telekom for the German government as an example of the collective power of the developer community. His message to developers was clear.

When faced with COVID-19 restrictions last spring, educators had existing online content and delivery platforms in place. 优蜜传媒was also ready with thousands of hours of content online. Because of this, we could facilitate a rapid shift to distance learning for 优蜜传媒professionals much more seamlessly than we could have even just five years ago.

Our digital transformation, however, was not entirely positive. The acceleration did not just take us to a future of e-learning, it also highlighted the shortcomings of how we reskill in a remote world. This year taught us that an online course alone will not cut it. The year 2020 also made it abundantly clear that networking in the comments below a YouTube video is not the type of networking that helps you land a job.

To understand why, consider the three primary benefits of classroom learning. First, learners are exposed to new ideas and information. Second, learners make personal and professional connections, building a network of peers and experts in their field. Finally, learners receive professional qualifications that are recognized and respected among employers 鈥� often in the form of a degree or certification.

Learners in a remote world expect to receive these same three benefits. But while an online course might teach learners new ideas and processes, they tend not to confer the rest of the experience.

The good news is that with a little creativity, a lot of innovation, and a focus on what learners require, we can get there. Zoom fatigue is no reason to give up indefinitely. If we do not crack this digital puzzle, we will fall far short of the workforce transformation we need to flourish across the economy.

Today, as long-term unemployment rates skyrocket, more workers are turning to digital education to reskill themselves for a new reality. The scale of the challenge is staggering. It is estimated that more than . We cannot upskill our workforce by bringing those 1 billion people back to school in a traditional sense. We need more.

The desire is in the data. This year at SAP, our digital model 听优蜜传媒Learning Hub has seen course enrollments grow by more than 14% year-over-year (YoY). Active learners on openSAP, a platform that offers massive open online courses (MOOCs), have increased by more than 22% YoY.

Today鈥檚 learners are desperate for learning that is not just a distribution of content. They need those experiential aspects of learning offered in the classroom. While 优蜜传媒saw 14% growth in course enrollments, we also saw almost triple that level of growth in peer-to-peer engagement within virtual learning rooms, which are online environments for learners to interact directly with each other and experts.听In October, we piloted 1:1 coaching in learning rooms for personalized guidance 鈥� and they were oversubscribed by more than 600%.

The adoption levels of those new formats are staggering for an education business with hundreds of millions in revenue and hundreds of thousands of learners. It removes current time restrictions and allows users to transfer projects to production without the need to rebuild content. As an intermediary step toward the free tier model, 优蜜传媒recently from three to 12 months.

The redesigned user experience for helps make it easier for architects and experts to identify relevant integration content, such as APIs and events, integration packs and user documentation. The update will be available as a beta shipment by the end of 2020.

Case in point is the private beta launch of 优蜜传媒Graph software at the event last fall. Essentially an API semantic layer on top of the intelligent enterprise suite from SAP, the software is being created to improve the developer experience when working with APIs. I saw a demonstration in this .

鈥淎s part of SAP鈥檚 intelligent enterprise strategy, we want to provide developers with a set of curated, intuitive, easy-to-understand APIs that they can use to extend innovation on 优蜜传媒and third-party applications,鈥� said Jan Schaffner, head of Central Engineering at SAP. 鈥淲ith harmonized object names, developers will be able to more efficiently explore, test drive, and ultimately create productive applications, securely connecting and integrating master data across 优蜜传媒and non-优蜜传媒cloud landscapes.鈥�

Making APIs Easy to Consume

Schaffner described 优蜜传媒Graph as an eventual central entry point for partners and 优蜜传媒development teams creating applications based on processes across the .

鈥淲ith unified API access to core data and functionality for intelligent enterprise processes, developers could quickly reuse what they鈥檝e learned in other 优蜜传媒solutions, speeding up productivity,鈥� Schaffner explained.

Pilots Make Progress

In some pilot projects, 优蜜传媒partners are using 优蜜传媒Graph to create applications around the quote to order process, including 优蜜传媒Sales Cloud, 优蜜传媒Commerce Cloud, and 优蜜传媒S/4HANA Cloud.

One 优蜜传媒 used the pilot version of 优蜜传媒Graph to create a prototype microapps service for developers that would help them build workflows uniting more information from different 优蜜传媒solutions.

In another proposed scenario, retailers could personalize customer order deliveries using 优蜜传媒Graph as a unifying layer across existing logistics and customer commerce applications. That example included a conversational user interface (UI), allowing customers to talk with a chat bot to select delivery dates.

鈥淲e want to create one domain model for the intelligent suite, which includes data across four main business processes: lead to cash, source to pay, recruit to retire, design to operate,鈥� said Schaffner. 鈥淭his level of simplified harmonization is designed to help all developers, especially those new to 优蜜传媒environments, who lack the resources for time-consuming training.鈥�

According to Schaffner, developers involved with the pilot beta version of 优蜜传媒Graph have shared positive feedback.

鈥溣琶鄞絧artners are super excited about 优蜜传媒Graph because it exposes, in a common domain model, a subset of APIs that are most relevant to them,鈥� he said. 鈥淭his kind of curation will make it easier for developers to build extensions on top of solutions, helping their customers take full advantage of the incredible breadth of 优蜜传媒business applications as they migrate to 优蜜传媒S/4HANA and our entire intelligent suite.鈥�
